Agnes Stradner

Co-founder/ Concertmaster

Agnes Stradner is an internationally active baroque violinist, chamber musician, concertmaster of the Bach Consort Wien, and a sought-after specialist in historical performance practice.

Born into a family of musicians in Vienna, she received her musical education in Vienna, Detmold, and Berlin, studying with Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet), Young Uck Kim (Beaux Arts Trio), Ulf Wallin (Cherubini Quartet), and Eberhard Feltz. Surrounded by historical instruments from an early age, she soon discovered her deep fascination with the baroque violin, which has remained at the heart of her artistic work ever since.

Her true passion lies in chamber music. With great dedication, Agnes Stradner initiates concert series, brings together artists from different disciplines, and often combines music with literature or dance in her projects.

Her chamber music engagements have taken her throughout Europe and Latin America – including Germany, Italy, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, and Argentina, alongside her home country Austria. Her current artistic focus lies on the trio sonatas and fugues of J. S. Bach and the chamber music of the Austrian Baroque.

In addition to her work with the Bach Consort Wien, Agnes Stradner regularly collaborates with leading period ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Les Musiciens du Louvre, and Les Musiciens du Prince – Monte Carlo. She has performed under the direction of René Jacobs, Ton Koopman, Alan Curtis, Gianluca Capuano, and Marc Minkowski, contributing to numerous recordings and tours across Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

Based in Vienna, she teaches baroque violin and viola and leads the Baroque Ensemble at the Döbling Music School. She also gives regular masterclasses and workshops in baroque violin, historical performance practice, and chamber music.

Agnes Stradner performs on a violin by Giovanni Battista Grancino, crafted in 1699.
